Preparing to Celebrate Christmas

Rev. Kathy Fisher Letter 12-06 to 12-19 2020

My dear friends,

Greetings to each of you during this wonderful season of Advent! This season proclaims the comings of Christ – whose birth we prepare to celebrate once again, who comes continually in Word and Spirit, and whose return in final victory we anticipate. It truly is one of the most hopeful periods of the year as we are able to affirm God’s grace and goodness to a hurting world.

This past Sunday we enjoyed the service of The Hanging of the Greens, and the church was beautifully decorated for the First Sunday of Advent. A big thank you goes out to all who participated in making that service so worshipful: Karen Mashburn for providing, setting up and hanging some of the Chrismons on the tree; Jim Fisher for hanging the rest of the Chrismons on the tree; Jim and Pollyanna Judd for providing the lovely greenery and placing all of the poinsettias, wreaths and garlands within the church and on the outside doors; the “Whitfield Trio” (Angie Mitchell, Roseina Bobbitt, and Lewis Mashburn) who sang all of the beloved Advent hymns for this service and also acted as readers for the congregational parts of the liturgy along with Jim Fisher.

We are live-streaming and recording our worship services on Zoom so that those of you who cannot participate in person can still worship with us in real time, or you may watch the recording of the service at your convenience. I will send out the link to join the 10:00 am service each week on Sunday mornings. Just click on the link and make sure you are muted. After the service is over, I will also send out the link so that you may watch it later.

This Sunday we will celebrate Holy Communion, so those of you at home may wish to have your own bread and juice available to participate with us. Once our nation gets a handle on this virus, we will resume visiting our home-bound members to serve them Communion in person. Unfortunately, it is just not safe right now to do that.

I wish every one of you the most fulfilling Christmas ever. I am so honored to be spending my Christmas season with you all. Merry, merry Christmas, one and all! Let us keep the glow of Christmas in our hearts and the truth of the manger on our lips, as we journey together through Advent and Christmas and throughout the year. May the peace of Christmas remain in your hearts.

Kathy
