When you receive this April newsletter, we will still be journeying through the 40 days of Lent, as we look toward Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem with the waving of palms and singing Hosannas on Palm Sunday, April 10th.
Starting Holy Monday, April 11th, the Sheppard Center will be set up as a prayer center, open between 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and then again from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm each day through Good Friday, and then on Holy Saturday from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. This will allow people to come into a quiet setting and contemplate the events of Holy Week, experience several stations set up with different contemplative spiritual practices, including walking the large labyrinth we will have set up in there. With soft lighting and gentle music, we hope the experience will fill souls with renewal as we journey toward the cross with Jesus. Please plan to come experience this opportunity during the week and tell your friends and neighbors about it also. We will need volunteers to greet those who come into our Sheppard center during these times, so please sign up to help out on these days during these times.
At 7:00 p.m. on Good Friday, you will be able to log on to a community Stations of the Cross service, for which I will send the link to you that day. This is a service which was put together last year by the pastors of Aldersgate, Dalraida, Metropolitan, Perry Hill, and Whitfield United Methodist Churches.
On Sunday, April 17th, we will have the opportunity to log on to an Easter Sunrise Service filmed at Shakespeare Festival Park and put together by Aldersgate, Dalraida, Metropolitan, and Whitfield United Methodist Churches. And then I hope to see you all in person at Whitfield on Easter morning at our 10:00 am service as we celebrate our Risen Savior and greet one another as Easter People!! The Easter message is truly good news, gospel for us. It is good news about the power of God, the power of good over evil, of life over death, of hope over despair, of love over hate. It is truly good news about our Master’s power! My prayer is that you and your families will celebrate with many “Alleluias, Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!!”
